The Backstreet Boys “Larger Than Life” concert was held on 21 October 2017 in Singapore. It’s their third time back in Singapore and the National Stadium was packed! Filled mostly with 80s and 90s kids, it felt as if we were transported back in time, to our teenage years. Here’s why we’ll go to another BSB concert when they come back again.
Pre-event hype
There was not much of a pre-event party, except for Class 95 fm giving away fans, which were much needed in the sweltering heat. Unlike our previous concert (Britney Spears), we felt that there should be big banners or posters of the band in full size for photo taking.
Before the start of the concert, a screening of a mash-up of their past songs played on the big screens. It was entertaining initially and created the atmosphere of excitement that the concert was starting . People were screaming and dancing to it but we felt it was a little too long and after awhile, the excitement kind of plateaued off.
Main Event – Really Larger Than Life
The show blasted off with the upbeat tune, “Larger Than Life ” and the audience roared to life. Who could forget that this was the first song of their Millennium album. The dancing was choreographed to their music video, bringing one back to the good old days. The wife, and so were many other ladies in the stadium were screaming and singing along.
A big round of applause must be given to the “boys” as they tried to stick to the designed costumes. But under the sweltering Singapore heat, the “boys” decided to go light and at times were seen wearing a singlet during the performance. The heat paired together with all that dancing and slick moves, you can see them perspiring on the big screens. So much love goes out to them for giving it their all for their fans.
Stage Presence
As cliche as it sounds, we all know that every concert they hold would get the same treatment. But who cares?! When the “boys” shouted that we were the best fans, everyone went crazy and that made us love them more. The Backstreet Boys will always be our favourite boy band!
Throughout the show, each of the “boys” took about a minute or two to have a little “chat” with the fans. And we love them for doing it. A.J mentioned that they are in the process of writing new songs and would have a new album coming out soon. With a new album, means a new tour! The crowd went wild when they said they would be back in Singapore again. You can’t deny that they still have their charm, especially when they gave flying kisses to the crowd.
What we liked
The “boys” belted out about a total of 19 songs and they really sang their hearts out. The dance moves were simple as compared to the dance crew, but it paid homage to the slick and cheesy boy band moves we all love so much.
We were glad that despite the numerous dance sets, the “boys” made every effort to sing and dance the night away. At some point, you could literally see A.J ‘s veins when he sang. Confirm no lip-syncing! Cooing to each ballad, there were so much emotions that the wife told me it felt as if they were singing to her. I’m sure every girl in the stadium felt the same way. *roll eyes*
Verdict
Watching our childhood boy band was a treat (and feast for the eyes, for the wife). We would definitely recommend any BSB fan to attend their concert if they ever hold one near you. It will be a fun filled night with numerous nostalgic hits taking you back to your teenage years.
Tickets are priced reasonably with the cheapest at $108. Definitely worth your time and money!
