Melaka, also known as Malacca is a popular short getaway in Malaysia for tourists, especially Singaporeans because of a well-mix of modern developments and preserved heritage. Melaka isn’t as dazzlingly as Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. But if you’re looking for a slower paced destination while indulging in a gastronomic adventure, then Melaka might be just the place for you. Check out our 4 things to do in Melaka / Malacca.
What to do in Melaka / Malacca
1.Chasing Sunset
Melaka is one of the many places in Malaysia to catch a picture perfect sunset. The sun usually sets around 7pm, so its best to head to your desired location an hour earlier and capture the ever changing landscape.
Klebang Beach Pantai Klebang
Klebang is a 20 minute drive out from Melaka Sentral. The beach is known for its white sand dunes and rows of eateries along the beach. This is also one of the places where you can find the famous Klebang Coconut Shake. There’s also the Seafarer Restaurant Sdn Bhd located 5 minutes away from the beach. So after taking so many photos of the beautiful sunset, you can hop over and get a good dinner.
We managed to find a spot adjacent to Klebang beach which was quieter and much more scenic. You can spot local fishermen at work and locals having mini picnics. This place has so much space, you need not worry about finding your favourite spot.

Alternative location: Melaka Straits Mosque
Situated on Pulau Melaka, this is a popular place among locals and tourists to take sunset photos. If it happens to be high tide during sunset, the mosque looks as if it is floating on the water.
Address: Garden City 8-Storey Apartment, Jalan Merdeka, Taman Pulau Melaka, 75000 Melaka, Malaysia
It’s a nice place to go, but the place has been photographed many times. So if you’re looking for some where special, I would suggest Klebang Beach.
2.Food Hunt
What is Melaka without the search for delicious food at every corner you turn? There’s so many choices for you to choose from, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
Check out our post on finding food in Taman Kota Laksamana. The place is relative new and you can find locals hanging out in the area on the weekend. Furthermore, Melaka’s famous seafood restaurant: Aunty Fatso has just made this place their new home!
Jonker Street has always been a popular place to eat. But did you know, there are many other delicacies to be found outside Jonker Street. Check out our post on some of the famous food in Melaka – outside of Jonker Street.
3.Basking in culture
Melaka is rich in its cultural history. From the Portuguese invasion, to the British colonization, there are so many historical buildings, sites and museums waiting for you to explore.
Aside from the rich history, Melaka has its own side of fun and colourful street culture. Head to Jonker Walk on the weekends and be overwhelmed by the feisty rickshaw drivers decked out in their colourful displays on their rickshaws and loud music exuberating from their boomboxes.
4.Outlet shopping
Fancy some outlet shopping in Melaka? Then head to Freeport A’Famosa Outlet. This place has got really good deals and discounts. On top of the usual “up to 70%” discount”, they have additional offers on public holidays. Furthermore, this place is just an hour’s drive from Melaka Sentral.
Sacoor Brothers
Shirts from this outlet store came from Singapore’s IMM, as seen from the price tag attached. On top of the 70% discount, they dropped it further if we purchased two shirts. In the end, we bought 2 Sacoor Brothers shirts at RM200. Psst, Singapore was selling it at $170SGD for 1 shirt!
Puma
We were looking for sports wear and decided to shop at adidas, Nike and even LiNing. But none could beat the offers Puma were having. They were giving out “buy 3 with the price of 2” on top of their usual discount! Yes, literally any stuff you buy , the third is free! We each bought 3 shirts and walked out happily with our discounts.
Before I forget, this place has free parking compared to Johor Premium Outlet! The “auntie” spirit in us could not contain our love for free parking. We love free parking!
Afterword
